ECU - Engine computer thingy?
On the 07 model it's been moved under the bonnet, placed (I'm told as I know nothing about engines) on the bulkhead. I'm also told that this is not so good if I intend getting the engine area wet - it's a bloody Defender that's what it's for… Do I need to borrow one of Mrs M’s shower caps when it rains and I relent to the kids encouragement to plough through deep puddles – or are we talking extreme use before this becomes a problem? Or is the bloke (mechanic friend) that told me just jealous because I have a LR around my transit engine and he, well just has a white van!

Question Shocked

It's right at the top of the bulkhead behind the engine, it's a long way up but *might* get wet if water crashes over the bonnet.

The water would have to be pretty deep,, but still, their must have been a better place to put it !!

It is higher than the old one under the driver's seat. And if you're doing a water crossing correctly then the water level inside the engine bay should be a damn sight lower than that outside. 2007 Defender 110

TBH theres a Censored load of critical parts including the air intake thats a lot lower than the ECU. If you are in water that deep then its game over big time. Sounds like you've sussed this 'bloke' out.
I think its a in a better location compared to under the drivers seat.

I thought that it may have been the case... he was drooling at the time.

I’m not sure if he thought I was taking the Censored when I told him they designed in a cup holder on the top of the engine for mechanics! Rolling with laughter

Thanks for the feedback, feel reassured that I'll have bust everything else and the ECU will still work! What we're really saying is that before this is an issue the whole thing needs careful attention for deep water. Thumbs Up

You have no worrys regarding the ecu, it is a sealed unit and the connectors also have seals in them.

If its run under watter it wont get inside the ecu.
