England 1998 Defender 90 300 Tdi CSW Epsom Green
300Tdi air box
Hi all

Currently helping out a friend sort his Defender 90 300Tdi.

For whatever reason a previous owner removed the Land Rover air box and fitted a weird carbon fibre replacement that is sealed airtight with gaffer tape…

My question is it appears to me that the air filter housing in the Discovery 200Tdi is the same as the one on the Defender 300Tdi. This includes the 2 spring metal securing straps that I am struggling to find.

Any one know if the above is the case? Disco parts are, for some reason, a lot cheaper than a defender parts?

Jim

Might have most of the parts in the shed, I can check in the morning if you would like.
I think the rear discovery 200tdi mount is the same, front prob different as it's angled to fit the angled part of the inner wing IIRC.

My early 300tdi has the cylindrical steel can air filter housing, mounted in the band clamps and sat on 4 rubber bush feet.

I actually use the 200tdi filter as it has the plastic swirl shield fitted that the 300tdi version doesn't. It fits the same and is better IMO.

^^^ I know the 300 set up fine, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen the 200 or that swirl shield.

Any chance you could post some pictures?

I’m googling it, but no great luck so far. Donald

Donald. IIRC there were two different housings on 200tdi engines well in discoveries anyway, one had the swirl fan on the filter and one without.
On an aside Donald I have got the full EGR valve off of that 300tdi engine if you are still want one, I will be back up Inverness /Culloden area in late Apr/ beginning May

Thanks for the part numbers. I’ve found them OK. But perhaps I misunderstood what was being said above.

I took it from the earlier posts that the actual filter housings were different - but that the 200Tdi one included swirl fins, and would fit in the same location as the 300tdi canister.

If it was just that the 200Tdi filter inserts had fins, but the 300s didn’t then that makes sense. I hadn’t known that. I wonder why they changed? Manufacturing costs? Are they the same in every other respect?

I asked for pics because I thought the canisters were different. I can get loads of the externals but not the insides - but if there’s nothing to see there because the fins are on the insert, then that’s obviously not necessary. Donald
