Security and tracking on defender
Hi all, looking at options for trackers and additional security. Looking at meta trak deadlock, does anyone have any experience of this system or others?

Just concerned that the standard system isn’t upto much and want to try and protect the car a bit more. Looked at ghost but not sure I want someone coming into the house to try get the code off you!

Cheers

What makes you think the standard system isn’t up to much? From a tracking perspective I’m sure I read that the Range Rover sport is the most recovered stolen vehicle in Britain, meaning the at least the tracker must be pretty good.

The system it’s self probably isn’t too bad, but apparently the issue is that landrover put the tracker device in the same place on every car. Criminals know this so go straight to it and disconnect it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was looking into the Ghost system as one insurer I spoke to say they required it for all Land Rovers. Doesn't hugely appeal really, largely because I'm not keen on additional electronics potentially interfering with the car.

I just use a Disclok steering wheel lock on the basis that most thieves will target a car without one. It's not ideal, but it's just a little additional protection.

I’ve got the Ghost fitted. Great security system, only downside’s are you can’t use the remote start for preheating the cabin, and it’s a bit of a pain starting the car due to having to imput your own personally designed code sequence into the car before it will start. I still use a steering wheel lock as well. I had my previous LR D4 stolen off the drive.
I think the only way it’s going now is to be physically picked up and loaded onto a truck. 🤞🤞

They don't need to pick it up Dickey a bottle of washing up liquid and a winch and its on the flatbed in a jiffy.

Lots of JLR product stolen near me as the thieves know where the tracker is.

Dicky, I too have Ghost and I had them fit it so the preheater still works. They just need to install it so that it requires the code when a gear is selected. It simply stalls if you select drive or reverse, requiring your ‘PIN’ as normal. Autowatch were a bit miffed when I told them the preheater didn’t work. They said all qualified fitters have access to the specific installation instructions to allow the preheating to work.

Perhaps you should quote that to your fitter and have them return to reinstall. It took my guy 15 minutes to amend his original installation. D300 HSE 110

Trackers....
Is it just me but I have an Apple Airtag stashed in my Defender. Seems to let me keep an eye on my motor on my phone, all for 29 quid! I work overseas and my Defender is in storage, gives me great peace of mind!

The guy that bought my old Defender asked where was the best place to put an AirTag - my reply anywhere where you can get at it annually to change the battery! He found somewhere and told me that his insurer had also given him a discount on his premium - more than the cost of the AirTag! So if you do add one to your arsenal of antitheft items tell your insurer, you might get a discount. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

yes!!!

I used airtag from the very beginning of owning a car - I recommend hiding it under rubber pads - e.g. in the door
