BAS remap & intercooler upgrade. Insurance premiums?
Hi. Just wondering if anyone has experience of what hike insurers are asking for when you remap to 170bph (and maybe upgrade your intercooler) thanks Ed.

(I have a puma double cab - it’s currently remapped to
140 bhp. But looking at the BAS 170)

Very dependant on age, NCB , accident history and cleanliness of licence.

In general going through someone like A-Plan ( site sponsors but need to use correct office) the premium won’t be much different if you have a stock vehicle or one with a map and other mods.

In general “classic defender” owners don’t present as a community that pose a high risk to insure, hence premiums, especially for the more mature drivers, are low even with mods.

Worth giving A plan a call to discuss as mass market insurers struggle to be competitive as their systems are geared up for mass market standard vehicle insurance.

Thanks. Im currently with A Flux but will also see what A Plan can offer. (I’m pretty low risk so hoping it won’t be an issue if I go for the mods) 👍

One of the Landy mags did a price comparison test last year and Lancaster came out as the best option. I called them and they halved my renewal quote from Adrian Flux on a fairly heavily modified truck. I'd definitely recommend getting a quote.. TD5 hardtop to Puma inspired Poptop - my build thread

I have always been surprised by the high quotes I’ve got from Adrian Flux, modified Audi S5 they wanted almost twice what I could get through a comparison site with identical cover, cost isn’t the only deciding factor obviously but twice the money is hard to swallow hoping for a good experience when you have to claim.

You say your defender already has been tuned, then surely it doesn’t matter if you map it again, providing that you’ve told them that it is mapped

I was with LV and they never seemed unduly bothered by any of the mods, including the ones you listed. I think all in all my premium increased by £25 or so a year. I am unfortunately north of 40 and have full NCB.

Well maybe, or not… they asked me what it was remapped to - 140bph and they specify that on the policy so I’m thinking I probably need to tell them if I update it to 170…

Interestingly AF wanted an extra 5% on the premium if I add 20bhp.

Will def be checking out other options when I renew.
