[For Sale] Defender 6x6
This is a genuine factory 6x6 conversion carried out by Scottorn Engineering (who did the original 6x6 Range Rovers). It was built for Southern Electric in 1986 as a cherry picker running a V8 and LT85 gearbox.

I purchased in it 2014 when it was a single cab running a 3.5 Nissan diesel with a tipper rear body. It was plated at 4.5 tonnes but had been used on a Class VII MOT – only for vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes! As it had originally been classified as mobile plant my choice was to either pate it as an HGV or downrate it to 3.5 tonnes, which is what I decided to do, so it is now running fully legally under a Class VII MOT. I still have the original Land Rover VIN plate showing all three axles and rated at 4500GVW.

The Nissan engine seized about a year after I got it so I converted it to a Rover 3.9 V8 with an auto box from a Range Rover Classic. After that I set about changing the bodywork to turn it into a double cab. I used a single cab Hi-Cap rear tub and found a good Truckman Canopy and had the whole vehicle resprayed in Windjammer Blue.

My understanding is the single cab was taken from a 90 that had been rear ended and the double cab and other parts I sourced over the years. The wheels are genuine Wolf wheels. The Scottorn 6x6 provides drive to the middle axle, which when 6 wheel drive is selected locks the drive between the rear axles. The middle axle is Rover based, the rear axle is Salisbury.

The chassis is in excellent condition, and it has a Husky winch on the front. Its done just under 85,000 miles which I suspect is genuine , and is MoT’d to March 2023. I’m quite happy to re MoT it. Its stored under cover, but I'm losing my storage so its time for it to go.

I’m asking £27,000 for it which I think is a fair price, given a rotten chassis went on e-bay last year for over £8000.

I think this is a great Land Rover. Having seen it evolve on my visits to the garage I also use for my Discovery. And previous vehicles they have looked after.

I would really like to own it, just funds, time and space stand in the way!

Best of luck finding it’s new owner 👍🏽

A good friend of mine in Germany has a 6x6 built on a Reynolds Broughton 170in chassis. It looks very similar to yours and I think the same colour but with two Hi Cap bodies stitched together at the back.
An awesome vehicle. GLWTS.

Not sold yet, a couple of people interested.

Yes in theory I'd be happy to help getting it exported.
