Finding the build sheet from the vin
I'm sure there was a way of doing this- can anyone point me to a link?

Be careful due to the many changes that can be done. Mine should have a petrol but has a 300tdi fitted (which I knew before I bought it - in fact one of the reasons), but as things are so easily changed the vin will only give you what it was built as.

You used to be able to put the VIN into Topix and it would give you the full build spec. It doesn’t work for the New Defender though. At least it doesn’t on a free account. Worked for all my previous Landrover’s. Defender D300 HSE 110 MY22 Pangea Green
