Puma Annual Service and VCV
Annual service time, but a little overdue but very little miles since the last one.
A good run to warm Bunny up. Air Filter and Fuel Filter changed. Follow by Oil and Filter. Then a full Coolant change and air bleed.

After lunch was time to change the VCV. Deep joy. Very awkward using a range of 1/4 drive sockets. Took around 45 minutes to remove and refit.

Started Bunny, she ran smoothly then cut out. Cranked for a bit, started cut out. Started, ran revved, idled, then cut out.Cranked for a while, Started, so on and so on and so on.

Went for a coffee. Came back. Similar issues again. Was getting a little frustrated. Started loading up SDD but could get it to work properly. Cranked Bunny again, Started, revved idled. Perfect. Phew. Stopped Started a few more times and took her for a drive. Much better.

Much better - I understand youbdont have to recalibrate the VCV - so assume the ECU does its own re-learn.

Now fitting the CB Radio, ready for a 4x4 adventure. Will be ordering front and rear pads, discs, callipers, seals, and swivel seals soon.

Good luck with all your own challenges and take care 🙂 2009 Defender 90 CSW 2.4 TDCI.

VCV will relearn.

When I did mine all was fine, I left her to idle a good 15 mins whisky obviously being with it whilst it was at all times.

Don’t Rev it or anything like that, but enough for engine to warm up a little.
Shut off.

Then went back inside, had a cup of tea then went for a ten mile round trip after that and all was fine.

Mind you I replaced it in temperate temperatures and wasn’t really cold.
If you can leave it until weather at least 10.C plus would be better imo if you can but if not you can’t.

I was surprised how much power I had back when it was sorted out. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Sadly mine wouldn't idle. Still running like a dream today.
Diesel clatter / bag of spanners sound gone. Everything is much more refined. Need another good motorway journey to warm her up fully and blow through the cobwebs!! 2009 Defender 90 CSW 2.4 TDCI.
