Looks to be a great price for a VDO, especially with all the fitting parts included.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Hello,

Sorry for joining the thread and maybe hijacking the thread

This afternoon I replaced a whining VDO fuel pump (been there 7+ years) with a Hitachi unit labelled HUCO Made in Germany. It was a cheap unit.

Has anyone every rebuilt a fuel pump (replacing the motor?) there are some on ebay "continental VDO" priced at around £162

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394027335776?ep...R-j2q-7MYg

does it make sense? I am stripping the pump and the high pressure line (green one is difficult to come off the motor.

does it make any sense? pump body is still ok no cracks or snapped parts so far.

Don’t waste your time with the cheap ones, VDO only. I’d rather fit a second hand VDO than a new aftermarket.

i found the thread about rebuilding the pump.

fingers crossed about the Hitachi one. It was meant to be a temporary fix while i see if rebuilding the old VDO would work. when it starts whining i will try replace its motor with a VDO one if the housing is similar.

i will be rebuilding the old whining VDO once the motor arrives. Hopefully I snap nothing along the way.
