Warranty Tips for a new owner - what should I look for?
Hello one and all, I'm new to this forum and also yesterday took ownership of a Heritage 90 CSW in Atlantic Green.
I have a limited warranty on this vehicle and it will be going back on Monday as driving home, a 20 mile trip, the engine felt liked it misfired at @3000rpm and then the engine warning light came on. This has cleared this morning, but I have not driven the vehicle today. I also found a bolt hanging out of the bell housing.

Are there any common faults (or should that be how many) I could check for before returning to the dealer, the vehicle has done 57,0000 miles.

get the dealer to sort it all out and if necessary consider an independant assessment from someone like the AA.

bolts hanging out would really worry me. has it been serviced/repaired competantly?

is it a TD5? BM52

It is a Td5, I just spoke to the dealer, it's just had a new clutch fitted, that would explain the bolt hanging out, but it's not a good advert for their workshop.

We've just been out in it again, hit 3000rpm in third and felt like hitting a wall as the engine cut out momentarily and the engine light came on again.

Hi,

Most likely the wastegate actuator, it is probably sticking and not fully opening causing a fuel cut due to overboost.
The engine usually makes this around 2750-3000 rpm, does on mine anyway.

Look here

Mine does it all the time, give it a good vigorous working as in the video. It may stick again though after a while. Not sure if it is the turbo wategate or the actuator which is the problem.

hi the heritage model was a 2000 year i belive with 57k on the clock this seems to be very low milage ,and with this milage it should not have needed a new clutch ,unles it has done 57k towing a drilling rig/caravan or had a hard life ,as for the misfire i would suggest oil in the loom a very common fault in td5 of this age

If the bolt is out, it could be a botched clutch change. The crank sensor reads off the flywheel and is mounted on the bellhousing - the flywheel is on the engine. if you are getting a crank sensor misfire, then I'd suggest the gearbox is not where it should be.

Either walk away, or if you really want it, get an independent to take a look and get the seller to foot the bill.

It should have been done properly the first time. This suggests it was done on the cheap by the seller.

Exhaust manifold warping,

You've got a way to go before this happens, you just start to hear a whistling and lose some power. Best fix is to have the warped manifold machined flat. Sticking a new one on will just warp in the same time frame as the first but the other won't warp again. Russell

New mass airflow meter, new injector loom and new crank sensor, now runs great. Very Happy
