D250 Holding onto gears
Does anyone else have any issues with their car holding onto gears and not down changing or going down hill and revs increasing almost in a hill descent way? Its really odd hearing the engine scream. I can get it to change down if I accelerate down hill but its not great.

I don't think it's an issue but intentional. Mine does the same.
It holds onto the gears for engine braking, so you don't cook your brakes.
Your engine might sound strained but it's ok as long as temps and oils are fine. 22MY Defender 110 D300 S in Pangea Green and Contrast White Roof

Ok, thanks for that. Bath is very hilly but its the only auto I've had that does it.

I'll keep persevering, but I'm still preferring my XC90 at the moment, which has been faultless with great dealer service. I can't say the same about Lookers.

Just come back from a week in the Yorkshire Dales and found it was ideal the hilly bits. On the D4 I would have to use the paddles to keep a gear low enough for engine braking on occasion but the Defender was more effective at doing it itself without any intervention from me.

Just occasionally I would pop it up a gear on a longish medium descent when it needed it. 110 D300 SE Tasman blue

Funnily enough on holiday in Yorkshire and came down Sutton Bank which is a 1 in 4, today. Car automatically dropped its gears and came down at higher revs in low gear. Didn’t have to do anything. Don’t know if it’s reading the road signs or using the navigation to sort itself out but it worked. 110 XS 250 MY 23 Gondwana Stone, Cold climate pack and towbar

I’ve noticed this with my D250, my 90 D200, if I’m being honest felt more refined. 23.5MY 90 D250 X-Dynamic SE, Pangea Green
