Recommendation for A-Plan
I’ve now got my third vehicle insured with Thatcham’s office.

Thanks to Richard Spencer for a long caring and thorough phone call this morning.

Chuffed to bits!

Have you had any claims and if so were you happy with the service..?

Just thinking of moving from the NFU.

I renewed again with A-plan today too… thorough but pacey run-through with Rebecca of mods, (my wife’s) accident history etc and they matched last year’s price.

Very happy customer currently but I’ve not had to claim, and the underwriter is Markerstudy who I’ve heard people try to avoid!

On the NFU point - they’ve been absolutely great on my house insurance for various reasons. Not the cheapest, but cracking cover which we’ve needed.

I've renewed by insurance again with A-Plan, premium actually went do due to a change to wifes work. Very impressed.

NFU probably great cover but the premiums are astronomical compared to A-Plan. James

A-Plan were £231 v £390 (was £309 last year) for NFU, but I looked at the reviews for the underwriters - MarkerStudy - and they are dire. I feel like I'd be wasting £231 paying for their cover.

NFU have been great over the 20+ years Ive had Land Rovers insured with them and two claims (thefts) were handled faultlessly, but their % increase is a bit hard to swallow.

Ah well.....I'll chew on it for another week...;-(

A Plan do have alternatives to Markerstudy available if you ask. I think they just offer them because they're usually the cheapest. I'm insured through A Plan but with another company (that I can't remember the name of) as I refused to use Markerstudy. They're still very reasonable. Darren

Premium price is not always the best method of judging an insurance company's acumen......How they deal with claims should also be a major factor in my book............over the years there have many posts on how good A plan are on the premium side of the equation but as far as i am aware i have not seen a single post on how A plan actually deals with claims!

I will ask again has anybody had to make a claim with a plan and what was your experience?as far as i can tell over the 8 years ive been on this forum A plan are a great firm to buy insurance from but i have no information on how the deal with claims and that concerns me given their association with market plan.

We've been with APlan for years and have also had to deal with them for a claim.

All I can say is that they are excellent. You get to talk to a real person and they liaise with the insurance company and just take the pain away. Its why we have been with them for so long. Thumbs Up

That’s a good point, I don’t know if the poor reviews for MarkerStudy were based on A-Plan customers or not. If A-Plan manage the claim, then perhaps it doesn’t matter how good or bad MarkerStudy are..?

It was a bit complicated, but it involved the theft and accident of one of our company vehicles by a contractor. However, the car was then stolen from the repair shop so they had to liaise with their insurers as well. They made the whole process really easy and straight forward.

Other than my camper van build, which is with APlan, as a family, we (I) made the mistake of moving everything to an Admiral multi car policy last year, but they are a pain to deal with Evil or Very Mad . We will move everything back to APlan in May because we miss the ease of picking up a phone and talking to someone who understands. Our house is also with them under a special insurance policy because of contents value, some specialist items, land configurations and out buildings. They are just easy to deal with and it doesn't involve a tick box on a screen that doesn't give you any flexibility for anything 'different or unusual'. I see value in ease of engagement and communication and so am happy to pay extra if need be, but they're usually very competitive. I like any easy life Laughing
