Reversing lights -
Are poor reversing lights a standard fitment on LR's of all sorts !!!!
In day light the reversing camera is great - no issues.
At night on a dark unlit street or backing into a dark garage or parking space - its useless.
Further investigtion shows that the problem is the poor reversing lights.
I've had someone stand to the side of the vehicle with a powerful torch - when this is switched on and aimed to the floor the camera works great.

Is this common on L663s?
Has anyone any experience with the 'PowerfulUK' additional reversing light system they do?

Thanks

Apparently (see elsewhere on this forum) a reversing light is now provided solely as a warning light for other road users and is not intended to provide rearward illumination! Rolling with laughter

No, I don't believe that either. Inadequate reversing illumination has been a standard feature of Land-Rovers since 1948.

I think most vehicles have rubbish illumination from the reverse lights. I had to change the bulbs for Led ones on my Vw t6, to get anything like what I had on my Discovery 4. The ones on my D4 seem really good?

PowerfulUK reversing lights were the first accessory I fitted to my Defender. They are very bright and do help significantly improve the camera image at night, though its still not up to par with the daytime image. Current: MY22 P400e SE

Ah thanks for that -
Looking the their website the lights have 6 separate LED's each side - so must be an improvement.
My only conceern is the fitting - more the electrical side.
Its a new car (to me) so I dont want to screw anything up.

Thanks anyway - - - -

The passive aggressive tone is unnecessary.

I’ve never driven or seen a vehicle with a reversing light that I could reasonably construe as being designed to illuminate your path rather than warn others. If you need wider illumination to the rear you fit auxiliary lighting, as many of us already have.

They are really easy to fit, no wiring necessary as the lights come with a connector fitted which you plug between the existing male and female sockets of the wiring loom and light cluster.

The only thing I found a bit unnerving was having to use brute force to prise off the plastic cover around the lights to get access to the wiring loom, but it came off and went back on ok Current: MY22 P400e SE

Just fit mine last week. You can see pics on my IG.
My 10 year old helped me, it’s that easy.
Getting the panels off do require a brave tug and you need some basic tools like a solder, and panel remover tool.
Follow powerfuluk’s YouTube video. The instructions are very clear 22MY Defender 110 D300 S in Pangea Green and Contrast White Roof

Hey - Ritson Heymeister - thanks for your input - you make it sound straight forward.
Yes - ive watched the powerfuluk video (several times) - looks like the sort of thing you need a peiceful Saturday morning for.
Yes - the panel removal does look a little bruital !
Guess you can do most of the installation & wiring (see that connectors are provided now - so soldering is not even necessary?) then just before snapping everything back in place make the final connection to the cars loom.

Uptoyouraxles - look forward to seeing or hearing how your install goes.

I'm gradually getting more courage that I might attempt the job ?

You need to attach the LED light module to the connector. I soldered those together, the video does very briefly mention it.
Then that connector will plug into your car’s wiring loom (male and female)

I guess could just twist the wires together and put some heat shrink tape on top… haven’t tried myself so can’t say. Maybe others can chime in here… 22MY Defender 110 D300 S in Pangea Green and Contrast White Roof

Don't know about that, but you certainly didn't miss the "obnoxious" one.

Apparently wanting a respectful level of debate is "woke", whatever that means. You right wingers are weird.

Whatever the reversing lights are attached to, it’s always nice to see which direction the trailer is going in the dark.
