Transferbox lt230 problem
Hello I have problem with my def. It turns out that when I release the clutch I feel a hoarse buzz, check the sound and it seems to be between the gearbox and the transfer case.
In addition to the usual clunk that I thought was the differential.
the sound increases when I shift from 3rd gear to 4th gear.

The hoarse buzz is probably a main or support bearing failing. When they do they become pitted and noisy.

It could be either the LT230 or the R380/LT77 and the only real way to tell is to drop the gearboxes and inspect them.

Incidentally, my experience is that within 200 miles of this noise the bearing failed at 70mph and grenade'd 5th causing massive internal damage. Be careful and get it checked over. If you decide one or other of the gearboxes need an overhaul it is a very rewarding DIY job to do Thumbs Up

OP appears to have a Puma, so an MT82 main box. If the noise was associated with a loss of drive I'd say output adaptor shaft coupling, but there are so many things it could be it's almost impossible to diagnose remotely.
