Anti freeze spec & procedure.
Yes you read it right? Henry the 110 is almost re-built & need to source anti-freeze / coolant.
Never done this before so any suggestions would be much appreciated.
2.2 Puma 2012.
We are in Pretoria at the moment so please don’t mention uk suppliers!
Things I’d like the answers to are
Volume & type plus spec of coolant for the 2.2?
I’ve read your supposed to used de-ironised water?
Bleeding or best practice of doing it?
Many thanks….

Bleeding - I’d just run it up to temp and then undo the expansion cap to get the air locks out. Do that a couple of times and you should be right. 2008 2.4 110 Utility XS.

From the 2012 Workshop manual

Anti-freeze WAS-M97B44-D
Anti-freeze concentration - Will provide frost protection to -40°C (-40°F) 50%
Specific gravity of coolant at 20°C (68°F), to protect against frost down to -40°C (-40°F) 1.068
Item Capacity
Cooling System 10 Liters (17.6 pints) (10.6 quarts)
Radiator 2.3 Liters (4 pints) (2.4 quarts)
Coolant Expansion Tank (To Cold Level) 1.2 Liters (2.1 pints) (1.3 quarts)

The workshop manual specifies a vacuum refill method using special kit which is no use to you unless your garage has access to it.

It's all in this thread here,
https://www.defender2.net/forum/post372623.html

Including the workshop manual procedure Thumbs Up

I'm fairly certain 10 litres is the total capacity.
Red OAT coolant, and yes use deionised water to dilute, if you're not using premixed coolant.

The cooling system bleed screw,

Been working with the guys 5 days per week to push it forward, thinking 1-2 weeks to completion. Addressed a few things this time around galvanised chassis & bulkhead / ORE wheel carrier ( Mantec wore out / recover boards on the side instead of the roof.
Does look smart though, be frightened to take it off road!!

Texaco Delo XLC antifreeze , orange in colour, Is the stuff LR use plus rebadge and sell as their own. It is really good antifreeze. Dilute 50/50 with deionised water.

It’s not easy to come by in less than 20l concentrate cans but I can see online that pre mixed 50/50 texaco delo xlc is available for £30 in a a 20l can, so that would be good for 2 changes , I.e 10 / 20 years worth.

Motul Inugel Optimal meets the specs for the 2.4 you can get it premixed or concentrate and it’s OAT and orange in colour.
If the 2.2 and 2.4 spec is the same for coolant then the above is fine.
I found it to be better than the Texaco.

But that’s an option. But as I said it meets the spec for the 2.4. Check the 2.4 and 2.2 spec for coolant. I’d imagine they are the same but double check to be sure. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Hi Timcat

As IanH states the owner's manual specs Texaco XLC or Havoline XLC which JLR then rebrand and sell as their own.
Now, Texaco is owned by Chevron which also owns Caltex and Caltex is Chevrons brand in South Africa (and Australia too). Look for Caltex Delo XLC or Havoline XLC as it should be the same product (orange in colour) as the recommended JLR one.
A search on the Caltex SA website shows 3 Caltex petrol stations in Pretoria.
