TD5 - seals replacement and blue smoke
my mechanic had amazing news - pointed out that the engine is smoking blue and that the injectors and the engine gaskets need to be replaced. the mentioned number was around 15k USD which was a bit of a wild number.
I know a set of injectors is around 1k pound, but is the replacement of the gaskets that much of a time consuming effort?

also, do you have a recommendation on replacement injectors? Td5 110 Station

The injectors are pretty hardy, and can often be cleaned or reconditioned. How many miles on the engine?

When they say "Engine Gaskets" that's a pretty wide ranging statement, but to replace every gasket on the engine would take a hell of a lot of time yes.

In terms of the blue smoke, it could be the copper washers/injector gaskets that need replacing, when does it smoke blue?

the engine is at about 300k km, so I guess any of the seals might be the culprit. I guess Swiss labor rate is the item that drives the value. He told me that the blue smoke comes when it idles. I noted it as well at the red lights and when accelerating. At 80km/h+ the issue is basically gone or you just don't see it anymore. Told me that there is the hint of Diesel in the air too - hence the point with the injectors that one of them might gone bad and resulting it to runs too rich as a result.

I do have a spare td5 with 165k km (+/-). I guess it would make more sense to check that one and then go with it. Td5 110 Station

Blue smoke means the engine is burning oil, and l doubt that an injector service or gasket replacement will cure it.

Unless they mean the valve guide seals, which may cure it. Also check that the turbo bearings are okay.
