12v live feed
Ok, apologies in advance if this makes little sense, describing any sort of auto electrics type issue isn't really my forte...

Anyway, replaced the head unit in Big Black a few months back, all works fine except every now and again (and seemingly randomly) when I start the engine it will lose all of it's settings and revert back to factory settings. Not a major issue but can get annoying.

Had it checked out today and the 12 volt permanent live feed into the stereo drops to about 9-10 volts when starting the engine, then goes back up to normal... Apparently because it drops below 12v thats whats causing it to lose it's settings - should only drop half a volt apparently... And there's never much load on the battery when I start it, heater is usually off or on at low speed, and very rarely start it with the lights/wipers/etc turned on.

Is my 2 and a half year battery on it's way out, or is it normal and it is the stereo thats faulty? Or is something a bit iffy somewhere - apparently the chap who checked it out said it was unusual to drop by that much. I never had any issue with the standard LR head unit.

how often do you use the vehicle? if it's left unused for time, consider a battery conditioner / charger that you leave plugged in when the vehicle is not in use.

of course it could be a knackered battery ?

It's used pretty much daily. But yesterday it was fine until I parked up, went into the shop, got back in and when I started it it reset itself.

Other times I can leave the ignition on with the radio on for an hour or so, and it'll be fine when I start it.

sounds like you need to get your battery checked unless you only do short journeys

Yeah think your right. Very rarely used on short journeys. It's due for a service in a few weeks so I'll get them to check it out.

Cheers Thumbs Up
