Wish I hadn’t bothered
Do you ever start a job and almost instantly regret it?

The rear of our front garden wall has been rendered with sand and cement; which is cracked and has weeds growing out of it.

Starting stripping it off today, with the intention of repointing with a proper lime mix (it’s a Victorian brick and rubble stone affair).

Shortly after getting to the point of no return (about a foot of render removed), I realised the halfwhit that rendered it, must have used the strongest mix known to man.

So it’s gone from a quick weekend job, to an ordeal that has meant I’ve needed to order a concrete grinder to get what’s left of the render off, without damaging the original bricks.

This always seems to happen with my “quick jobs”! Anyone else?! 2011 CSW XS 90

Done exactly the same! At the point I made the call not to replace the loose render but to strip it all off, every other square inch of the stuff was stuck like sh!t to a blanket!! I feel your pain!

I cant wait to get my life back tbh Rolling with laughter

there is a method to my madness though, its a very private 4 bed detached with a large amount of land and a lane at the back with space for a workshop, and it was the same price as my old 2 bed cottage in a posh area with no garden and overlooked by everyone, and same distance to the m4 for my commuted same distance to my local watering hole so no brainer! 2008 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold)

Sounds Awesome.
It sounds daft but that’s what I did.
Sold a 3 bed semi in Dinas Powys and bought a 4 bedroom detached in Tenby.
Best move I ever did mate.
I wish you all the best in your new home 👍

Reminds me of the time I saw the wife getting ready for bed and I thought "There's a lot of remedial work needed there." Any takers? Be warned it would be a fairly substantial undertaking Whistle 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Haha the joys of period properties!

Everyone wants a house with character, but the character of our house is that of a Censored arsehole.

Our place has been repeatedly bodged over the last 30/40 years.

I do a lot of it myself and it’s very satisfying to stand back and admire a job well done; but days like today, I just pull my hair out.

I’ll let you know how I get on with the concrete grinding cup. 2011 CSW XS 90

Me and my dad are doing DIY jobs in the house, Just to give him something to do while he is retired. We are planning before we do a job, we have a roof to felt, which is going to be fun job that, and expensive one too.
last week, my dad decided to level the floor out in the wash house, the pavement slabs weighed about a ton. we had to move 3 of them, and what a faff on we had getting one back into place. We must have been on with one, for about an hour Rolling Eyes
then to top it all off, the last one we ended up breaking in two Laughing
I tell you what lads, my dads legs were giving him some right hell during that night, and my groin where i was operated on when i was 3 years old, to remove an hernia, was giving me some right hell for best part of the week. Still gives me trouble now. Rolling Eyes Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
