Does anyone know if the aluminium channel and extrusions which fit underneath the 130 tub at the front and rear are available anywhere?

Hi camelman, thanks for that, unfortunately they didn’t do anything for the 130, which is a shame. However, they did put me in touch with a company called, “Defender rear tubs Ltd”. Mark was really helpful there and asked for some photos which I’ve sent, so we’ll see how it goes. Thanks for the advice Defender9, I did have a bit of a look previously, but couldn’t find anything, so I will have another look. |

Hi Benspray, I never did find anyone in the end, which is a shame as I suspect that there are a lot of 130’s out there in the same boat as ours.
I ended up buying a TIG welder and teaching myself to weld aluminium. I got hold of some same thickness aly and cut out patches to replace the corroded stuff. I then placed the cut out piece onto where the corrosion was and traced round it with a scriber. I then used a Combination of both grinder with a 1mm cutting disc and a dremel equivalent with a little diamond grind wheel and cut out the crap. I put a bevel on the new insert and welded it in place. It cost me about a grand for the welder plus various other tools to assist and a lot of time and frustration. If the aluminium you are welding to is in reasonably good condition, then it’s not too bad. However, corrosion tends to work its way through aluminium which makes it an absolute nightmare to weld. Having said that, it did seem to turn out okay in the end. The real problem came with the channel that holds the square sliding bolt. With that one, I had to use a piece of close fitting copper which I slid into the channel and then formed a sort of molten pool of aluminium which I had to file down later to match the profile of the rest of the channel. This seemed to work pretty well, however when I came to bolt it in place, the square bolt seemed to pull out. I ended up leaving it like that and it hasn’t seemed to make any difference. It was such a pain in the neck, that if I was doing it again, I think I would just buy a new tub. Getting the captive nuts in place, which go inside the channel, was also entertaining, however I developed a system for overcoming that which worked quite well. Thanks for all of the info
I'll have a bit more of a look over mine before deciding what to do - but from teh sounds of your hassle with it all its sounding more like a job for someone else or just look out for a replacement tub if/when it gets bad enough
I'll ping you for info on the captive nuts etc if I ever decide its worth the challenge
