LAND ROVER DEFENDER SINKHOLES ROUTE
Hello friends! This is the next episode of our holiday week in Aragon during Easter. We start the video in the Salinas de Royuela, very close to Albarracín, some very old salt flats. There are traces that they existed in the twelfth century but it seems that salt was already extracted much earlier. Salt was important for agricultural activity as it was an essential element to complement the feeding of animals. Then we go to the point of origin of the route of the Simas.
We wanted to visit the source of the Tajo River, which rises in the Sierra de Albarracín, at an altitude of 1,600 m, specifically in Fuente García. Unfortunately the exact point is fenced on both sides and it was impossible to enter, not even just walking. We are satisfied with the tourist point of origin of the Tajo with the statue of Father Tajo and those of the 3 provinces in which it is born. The upper Tajo is characterized by the abundance of canyons and gorges sculpted by the river on limestone and sandstone formations; while on the plains of the carbonated lands there are potholes or sinkholes.
The region of Albarracín is full of potholes and sinkholes that have the appearance of large funnel-shaped craters that suddenly burst onto the plain. These sinkholes and sinkholes are typical of limestone rocks and are formed due to erosion: the water filters through following a pattern called "karstic modeling". They are rocks that were formed by the accumulation of layers of sediment in ancient marine basins about 200 million years ago. For this reason, fossils of marine invertebrates extinct in past times can be found inside.
In two of these chasms there is a path and you can go down to the bottom in a 4x4, of course.
We hope you enjoy this video and see you in the next vlog! Thanks and goodbye!

Here we leave the route in case you want to do it:
