Could this be a Brake switch issue?
Hello all,

Gremlins have come to revisit me and this is the present they have left. Each time i press the brakes the interior dash board lights come on. The brake lights work ok. Rather than start searching for an earthing or a shorting issue, i am reaching out to see if anyone has experienced this issue and if the outcome was a faulty brake switch.

Hi Mark, brake level seems to be ok, settling on the high level line.

The first thing I would try is disconnecting the harness from the brake light switch and shorting the terminals on the harness-side connector. This would allow you to determine if it is the movement of the pedal grounding something (trapped wire etc) or if it is a short between the brake light circuit and the interior light.

The interior light is a switch-to-ground circuit so it is possible that is it a strange earth fault, and when you press the pedal the brake lights provide a path to earth.

Is it the dash illumination or the Interior light that is coming on?

I would check if they are simultaneously coming on together. So either with the help of an assistant, ir park it with the rear against a wall so you can see when the brake lights are on, slowly press the brake pedal until either one comes on.

If they light up simultaneously, then most likely a poor earth that is causing a potential on the illumination/light. If one comes on after the other, then something chafing on the pedal itself. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
