Winter tyres - Continental
Apologies for double-posting, but I just realised this might be rather more Puma-specific:
Living in Munich, I already have sets of Summer and (proper) Winter/snow wheels for an Audi and a Beetle but now there's the Puma on top... It came in April with "standard" Continental Cross Contact ATs M+S. I know many M+S tyres are crap on snow/ice but does anyone have first-hand experience with these? I have been pointed to one review (many thanks bm52) which looks 1/2 promising but it's certainly not Defender-specific. They look pretty meaty and I know they are aquaplane-resistant but I can't find any applicable info about ice and snow.

Thanks for any opinions (and yes, I have searched the threads already Wink )
Cheers
Matt

p.s. Honestly, I would rather just buy Wolfs and Nokians but I can't afford them and a divorce lawyer... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

My defender still has the cross continentals on that it was delivered with a year ago.
They saw me through the heavy winter in Aberdeen with temperatures as low as -20 C, and ploughing my way through roads with 2 foot uncleared snow.

I personally can't fault the tyre, the only reason I would change the tyre would be for studded ones.

Mine is running general tr's, any good in the snow? had bf alt last year on a l200. Drove to Donegal up north on, (about 250 miles) on xmass eve -17, in snow and ice, not a bother. This will be my first winter in my 90, confident with the puma, not so about tyres. Anyone run these in the snow? 08 Puma 90xs

Hi Bill,

My old Td5 Double cab had the TR's on it, I did find at times I sliped and slidded a bit (may have been acting a bit of a tit at the time!) but i never got stuck in snow. I was bit braver with the cross conti at's and found them to be a much better tyre.

That was the same decision that I made, they won't be the best but you will fair better then most.

You just won't be able to do much towing people out of ditches on ice roads. Russell

I live in Donegal with a Puma 110 on TR's. Performed well last Winter. Went up slopes and down slopes that had homemade sleighs on them. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

We were also fine on TRs last Winter - and that's with a 35% gradient driveway covered in ice! TRs are very good for "normal" driving on tarmac which makes them a good all rounder. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

My tr's saw me take a nice little slide in ice pack and hit some little renault...not the best snow tire for sure... Caged to at2's as they have a better winter rating. 2008 Defender 110 60 year Edition (sold unfortunately)
