Importing accessories. Tax, VAT, Duty etc.
Does anyone know how to calculate what additional charges I would have to pay if I bought some Defender accessories from the EU. The supplier I've been looking at would sell the goods with no local VAT, but I would be liable for any charges on entry I think. Is it just UK VAT to add, or there other taxes? I guess I'll get stung for an admin charge from the parcel company too. The items would be to the value of about €700 if that makes any difference. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Ask the seller if they can give a price door to door with fees all included, dhl offers this and if I can get it I always use this method as I don’t get a surprise, also normally removes the admin fee sting. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details

When you do the all included price the postage is more expensive but it’s because it includes the duty vat etc, also it normally goes through customs quicker, but that could be just my imagination Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

From memory its 4% Duty on vehicle parts and then 20% VAT on everything.....

As a rough guide I have alwyas found adding +25% to the shipped cost is about right

If the goods are of EU origin and he declares this on the commercial export invoice there should be no duty to pay.

As race.it mentions, try to get ddp shipping. Then you know exactly how much you will paying before you even check out, and everything is paid to the seller. All responsibilities are on the seller. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
