Preferably in Stornoway Grey but other colours considered.
Ideally less than 40k miles but would go up to 50k. Would like a tow bar & electrics I'd prefer to buy from a member as I know you all look after your cars Thanks in advance chopdogs. |

Our current loan vehicle is a "fully loaded" 90XS in Stornoway Grey on an 11 plate. 3k miles, has the special tow bar (with a pin as well as ball), two sets of electric sockets, slightly bonkers tyres (Wrangler MT/Rs), two tone alloys (which I love!) steering guard, light guards, etc. Seems pretty solid and should be up for sale shortly.
Riders, Truro. Don't know the list price but as an ex demo, it should be keenish. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

Russ - not that clear but it's these ones - fairly common on new Defenders. The tyres however aren't!!

You can get a lot of things for that sort of money. A D4 commercial won't do what a Defender will do though. John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

Thanks guys
I should have said........my budget is rather below £29k and, whilst I love Defenders, I would not pay that sort of money for one. I have a 2002 Td5 SW - County spec with heated screen & seats plus air con. It has 48k miles on the clock. I reckon I may get £12k for that - please let me know what you think. On that basis I reckon I could go up to around £18k. chopdogs |

Chop - might be teaching you to suck eggs but we have recently learnt to our cost:
It's not the mileage that really matters, it's the history. 50,000 mostly road miles is way better than 20,000 miles of very heavy use - towing, farming, whatever. With a car the history is far less relevant -yes a 20k car that's been thrashed mostly around town will be more worn than one that's done 30k almost all on a motorway but the difference will be small. With a Landy, it can be the difference between a long life vehicle and an utter dog. In our headaches with ours I have also found out that the early clutches are more or less made of cheese and pretty much ALL need replacing, whatever the usage. Newer ones appear to be far more robust. If you find one check for the following items that are often hard to spot - get the halfshafts checked. Heavy wear on the flanges indicates heavy towing which kills Landies much earlier than usual. Check the gearbox - excessive notchyness means it's probably on it's way out. Pull away in 2nd to check the clutch. Also check for oil leaks under the vehicle engine- it appears they are a common issue. Oh and ask here for advice on good dealers - they are some but not enough. And avoid some like the plague. I won't mention names but a quick search will help. Two dealers with shining reputations are Lookers Park Royal and Roger Young (Cornwall). Hi Chopdogs
I have been looking for a TD5 90 hardtop for a while now. From some of the rubbish I have seen, hardtops and CSW's, I would say £12K should be OK, you just have to find somebody to pay that amount. I did see a 2003 90 CSW, more miles than yours but in very good condition and drove well going for £11K and the guy selling it had virtually no viewers and I think it may still be for sale. First bit of bad weather and you should sell it without any problems at all Bob |

I have a Defender 90 XS in Stornoway Grey October 2007, 16,000 easy miles, 12 months MOT, Sunroof, rear tow hitch, cargo guard, rubber mats front & rear, choice of SVX 265 KL71 Khumos or Boosts with 265 BFG M/T and i would be open to offers. Hella Dynaview driving lamps, soft A bar, genuine LR seat covers to the front as rears have never been used. ONE tiny stone chip and new clutch 200m ago. No leaks or faults. In no rush to sell but i would if i got a sensible offer. Picture in my gallery. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Are they 235's on there? If so, thats what I have on my DC.....apparantly they're an option now I like 'em! Same wheels too.....someone will correct me, I'm sure, but aren't they the 2011 XS alloys? Nice loaner though Mark 2011 110 XS DC Stornoway Grey |

Yep but the tyres look bigger I reckon! Wrangler MT/Rs - definitely good in mud but too noisy on the road. Those alloys are optional "two tone" ones - Boosts are standard even on the latest XS. I want some! Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

Ahh, I thought these wheels were instead of Boosts now on XS's. I don't find the tyres too noisy on mine actually....maybe the larger size makes quite a bit of difference? Although, looking again at your pic, they look very similar in size to my 235's....I do like the look of them Mark

Might not be the tyres but from 45ish to 65ish, there is a pretty loud rubbing/whining noise! I think it's the tyres but not 100% sure.
As far as looks are concerned, that 90 is the mutts nuts! And so is yours Mark! Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. Last edited by DefenderOfTheEarth on 18th Oct 2011 2:47pm. Edited 2 times in total |
