2004 Defender Td5 Towbar connections

I've got a factory-fitted towbar with a 7-pin socket. I seem to remember the socket is wired with a short flying lead to a connector on the chassis.

I'm thinking of buying a caravan with a 13-pin connector and 12-volt system. I'm just wondering if my Defender will have the secondary wiring in place, and if so, is there a Land Rover 13-pin socket which will plug in to a chassis-mounted connector?

I suppose another option might be to add a secondary 7-pin socket (if the Defender is pre-wired for it) and then use a 2x7-pin to 13-pin adaptor.

Sorry this probably isn’t much help…

The plug/socket is behind the OSR light panel (behind the plastic cover).

I don’t recall seeing any other ‘spare’ plugs or sockets when I changed mine a few years ago.

Here’s the wiring diagram below:

I tried to take a photo of the cable/plug but it didn’t work on the dark

I suspect you’ll need to provide a fused unswitched positive to achieve your desired outcome

No, since the 13-pin socket is an amalgamation of the 7N and 7S sockets, it involves about the same amount of installation effort as a 7S if you want it to be fully functional. It isn't plug and play.

The 13-pin socket is also an MOT testable item, the 7-pin sockets are not.
