Rear wheel carrier
What is the best rear wheel carrier in terms of build quality and ease of use ? ie it hinges open and closed with the door and not on seperate latches etc

I`m undecided between the Scorpion Racing and Mantec ones

Any thoughts ? Sib

Aren't Mantec ones "approved" by LR?? Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

I'm more tempted by the ones that just fit to the rear crossmember and open indepentantly. Frogs islan do one and also BOAB import one.

Does mean you need to open it before the door though, but they are so well engineered.

I'm finding that the weight of the wheel stops the rear door staying open if the Landrover isn't on flat ground - which can be painfull.

Hi I have a Boab (Kaymar) wheel carrier on my 110, and the build quality is just brilliant. Although as previously stated you do have to swing the wheel away before opening the rear door which can be a pain.

There is a small locking pin that holds the wheel in the open position, also for added security you can lock the wheel to the carrier using a standard padlock.

I have fitted the hinged type wheel carrier but as I have bigger wheels and tyres than standard. I think because of this its causing the carrier to loosen then the wheel rattles or wobbles. So I am looking to fit one of these swing away type carriers

Is there any chance you can bring your 110 down to Boughrood to show me this wheel carrier Question In return you can spend the day 4x4ing Thumbs Up

Hi Andrew sounds like a deal, Very Happy Can't give an exact date yet but i'm sure we can arrange it. But in the meantime to can see more details here

http://www.boab.biz/Pages/Kaymar%20Spare%20Wheel%20Carriers.htm

As this is my actual car & carrier, and as you can see it should take most sized wheels with out any problem.
