Locking wheel nuts - do people bother?
My nuts are swollen…. so going to get a set of OEM replacements from Rimmer Bros, which includes 20.

Was thinking of ditching the locking wheel nuts.

I’ve got standard boost alloys and 235 tyres.

I haven’t heard of anyone having boosts stolen, so can’t see the point of bothering with the locking nuts.

Does anyone else bother with them? 2011 CSW XS 90

Locking wheel nuts are more trouble than they are worth. One on the spare wheel only for me Thumbs Up Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…

Had exactly the same problem, 27mm nuts swollen to fit 28mm socket.

After ordering new wheel nuts, to prevent the problem of swelling reoccurring, gave all the new nuts a purge with thinned waxoyl, blown through the nut/cover gap with some compressed air. (I think I used about 10mL of 2/3rds Waxoyl/1/3 white spirit per nut, put down the centre hole, then blown out till just air escaped) Did all 20 nuts, wiped of any excess, let then “dry/cure” for a few days before replacing them.

Replaced the locking nuts with plain nuts – all of them. Zaid-M

If you're going to consider stealing someones boost alloys, surely it's quicker and easier just to steal the whole vehicle and drive it to some backstreet garage in Scroatsville to dismantle Whistle Defender 90XS SW

Haven’t really had any issues with my original locking wheel nuts - but do think there’s some very good points being made about the desirability of Boost Alloys (although I do really like them myself) and the many ways you can circumnavigate the factory-fitted locking wheel nuts (or baby locking wheel nut for that matter).

Do like the Wrington nuts very much Thumbs Up

I did of course also suffer from ‘swollen nuts’ when I first purchased the car (second hand) and just replaced them all. I do keep them clean/coated and never had any further issues since. My nuts are no longer swollen Wink
