I did my job today, as you said, it was very easy to disassemble, but I found the weights very firm, without loose movements... I found some white grease, it is possible that more grease is needed, do you have any idea what kind of grease should be added? Thank you very much. and it is true, I had a little more work to place the cover but nothing impossible.

I did this repair over the weekend and have cured the rattle in 5th and 6th while on the Motorway, not tested it in low range yet. My son thought we had broken the gearbox due to the racket coming from the weights in low range.
I tried refitting the rubber gaiter with bicycle tyre levers but couldn't. I would recommend the carpet removal and pulling the rubber gaiter and then carpet over the gear lever before refitting this only needed 10 minutes in total as opposed to the 30 minutes wasted trying to pull the gaiter back up, not to mention the skin I've lost from my fingers. ![]() |

You can do it that way too yes, only some people with matting or carpet with sill protectors etc might find it even more work to take the matting out.
But yes. The ideal time to do it is with matting or carpet out. That also includes being the ideal time to fit a Shift R or Slickshift and grease up plus spacers fitting if anyone wanted to go that route. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___ ___\⭐️Lone|Star|State/___ ____\We|Will|Win/___ ____/🇬🇧🇺🇸\____ _//*⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰*\\_ |

Can anyone advise if this would be the same ‘procedure’ in a 2004 110 td5?
Rattling in 5th / on the motorway is driving me insane ![]() |

The TD5 has an entirely different gear lever, so unfortunately this procedure won't help you.

Perhaps some fixings are loose on the TD5? _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___

Just joined the Rattling Gearstick Society and thanks to this thread fixed it in five minutes + the time to let the superglue cure
![]() I was also able to calm a friend down who told me yesterday there was something wrong with his gearbox - a rattle that goes away when he touches the gearstick. |

Hello to everyone,
the post is apparently too old and the pictures are no longer available. Is there another link to the guide? Greetings from Germany |

...die Welt ist echt ein Dorf. Grüße zurück nach WF!
![]() Many thanks for the photos. I think they will help me to get rid of this annoying sound from the gear-shifter. |

Hopefully helpful, I remember taking those.
![]() Though the rattle will come back eventually, I have found that hot glue can be a bit better as it’s less likely to crack, and the hot glue having a little give in it dampens vibration anyway. The hot glue is much less likely to crack too, due to its slight elasticity when set. If you do use superglue, it’ll last well though. I found the LR gearstick assembly was a lot to do with it, the LR set up has a lot of play in it, and that transmits the vibration up the assembly and amplifies the vibration around the weights. Is there any aftermarket options that actually stop the weights issue all together such as aftermarket gearsticks? _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___ ___\⭐️Lone|Star|State/___ ____\We|Will|Win/___ ____/🇬🇧🇺🇸\____ _//*⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰*\\_ |
