Whether you buy your 409 grade mid pipes or decats from Bell, IRB, Allisport, or myself, they all come from the same factory, and are made to the exact same spec. It's just a matter of price, and quality of customer service. Wink

Interestingly, some peoples premium range of pipes, are our budget range! Laughing

Stainless or mild steel the decat pipe is the one that lasts the longest so grade of material does not make any difference Unless you want to polish it Rolling with laughter

I don't see it as an issue of how long a section of pipe lasts, but rather how well it performs. Obviously being at the hot end, it'll give many years of service no matter what grade of steel it's made from. 304 grade will scrub up nicely, but will yellow over time due to the heat.

409 grade is also more resiliant than 304 grade, to extreme temperature changes, like when being driven through deep water.

We've used 1.6mm thick 304 stainless steel on our premium decats, which is heavier than that used on the 409 pipes, and so causes less resonance in the cab, and is of course well capable of being quenched in water!

In addition to this, our 304 pipes use very high quality flexi sections, which maintain a near constant internal diameter, where as the 409 budget pipes use a (cheaper) smaller, visibly more restrictive flexi. The radius and quality of the bends are considerably better on the 304 grade systems as well. This does make a difference to performance, although it is a relatively small one.

As I said, it's a quality thing! Whether you want to polish it, is of personal preference I'm sure. Rolling with laughter

Hi ... Just to my knowledge Embarassed

What are the benefits of fitting a de-cat down pipe and/or a silencer replacement pipe ?
Will it only works if the car has a remap or works fine on a standard Defender ?

Thanks! Thumbs Up Regards
Joao

Allows the exhaust gases to exit more quickly from the engine, allows the turbo to spool up quicker, so a bit more va-va-voom at low speeds Thumbs Up

You can do it without a remap, IMHO best bang-for-buck performance mod on any turbodiesel. --
