Clunk... but not gearbox, rather aircon condenser
Does anyone else's aircon condenser make a fairly loud "clunk" when first turned on, and again during the course of operation?

I'm afraid not. Air con compressor ? clutch. But I'm no expert. I'm sure someone who is will be along shortly. Whistle LANDYWATCH

Its the clutch engaging / disengaging. When you start the engine it disengages to make it easier for the engine to turn over. Then when you turn on / turn off the aircon it does the same as no point driving compressor if no aircon needed.

Not a loud clunk per se, but a loud click, you can definitely hear it when idling. --
