Tow bar mounted bike rack
Well pleased with this tow bar extender that I bought for £185 from 4x4overland. Allows me to use my existing rack no problem, plus it is rated to 85kg so takes 2 ebikes no bother. The landrover offering was going to cost best part of £900 for the rack and adapter and it was borderline weight wise for the ebikes.

Tilted forward it allows me to open the tailgate about half way so plenty to get the gear out the boot.

Hi - thanks for posting this, very useful. I've been looking at those adaptors, for when LR eventually get around to building my order(!). I'm going to be using mine for transporting bikes 3-4 times a week - when it is just my son (who races) I will just fold the seats down and sling it in the back, but when we are both riding we'll be back to using our tow bar rack I expect given the height of the roof...

No rush at all, but if it isn't too much bother, is there a chance of a photo showing the rack tilted down and the door open as far as it will go? I have an Atera rack that slides/tilts away from the car, so interested to see how good the access is with the rack on.

Cheers

Aye no bother, be Thursday when I'm off work again and I'm home in daylight.i would think you might clear it with that particular rack.

Ah great, thank you Thumbs Up

Yeah, I'm hoping it might clear it, that would be ideal.

Rack tilted forward and the rear door opens a good 50cm so plenty space to get in and retrieve gear from the rear.

Great - thanks for doing that, v helpful. Yes, gives you good access. As you say, with the rack I have it should open even further fingers crossed... Must order that tow bar extender. Do you leave the extender attached to the car or to the rack? Or keep it all separate?

No probs, I just keep them both off the vehicle as the rack gets used on the other half's Q5, although I can see it mostly being on the defender, both a bit smitten with it 😉
