Possibly the diameter is to allow for the voltage drop to the starter more etc if there is no under bonnet battery.

Surely we can have a lid to the central stowage box, like every other manufacturer, without the lid being an optional extra. If an item needs to be locked up, just lock the vehicle. It doesn't need to be an accessory.

The points I was making are 1. The central storage bin should have a lid regardless of whether its lockable or not like most other manufacturers. That lid is often used as an armrest by passenger and driver. 2. Security of items in the vehicle can be achieved simply by locking the vehicle itself without the need to separately lock the central bin.
