United Kingdom 2012 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 X-Tech LE Orkney Grey
X Tech to Standard Grille Conversion
Hi guys. First time posting, but long time LR owner. I've just purchased my second X Tech a 2.2 90 SW in Orkney Grey after previously owning a 2.4 Zermatt Silver 90 SW, when I lived in Australia. I also have a Series 3.

Potentially controversial opinion, but I've always found the front end on the X Tech a bit too 'pouty' for my likings and I want to switch the grille and headlight setup to a standard setup. I know it is a limited edition, but it can be changed back. Wondering if many people have changed an SVX front to standard?

Is there anything I am missing? I whipped most of the parts off yesterday to have a look. It felt like the radiator grille surround should have some kind of lower bracket / bracing as it only seems to screw into the 4 holes at the top. The SVX grille has 2 lower bolts into the headlight brackets.

The radiator grille surround I ordered does not fit, it's about 5-10mm too wide and so does not sit in, plus the mounting holes are all a bit off. Any recommendations / links to decent quality ones would be appreciated. There are so many reproduction ones out there, but many not in stock...

Thanks in advance.

Darren

The standard A/C grill surround is fixed at the lower sides to two brackets that are bolted to the inner faces of the wings:

I can't offer fitting advice, I'm afraid, but I completely agree with your opinion of the hideous SVX grille! What were they thinking when they stuck that monstrosity on the front?

It will look much better when you've changed it. Thumbs Up

I've come to defenders fairly late.
Had an old bitsa series 3, but not followed defenders in any detail other than being aware of the the general 90's, 110's, 130's etc, along with step changes in running gear e.g. tdi, td5 and the post 07 puma tdci..

So just wanted to say that, from reading this thread, I'm staggered to find out that the hideous front on that is a genuine LR design.. What were they thinking! yuk!

Fully supportive of your putting something better on there! good luck, and look forward to some 'after' pics.
