NOCO Lithium Batteries
I have been using this forum for many months since owning my TD5 and it has proved amazingly useful so figured its time to ask my first question Smile

My battery is rather knackered and a mate just offered me 2 x NOCO NLP30 motorbike (lithium) batteries. This got me thinking - would they be useable in my Defender, their compared AH is about 70 and crank power is high. Theyre super small and super light so would allow me to fit more in the battery box.

I am sure im missing something (car electronics isnt my fortay!) but figured I will ask and hope its not a ridiculously stupid question. If it is not a stupid idea, how would I look to connect them together?

Many thanks!!!!

I'd seen these NOCO batteries, and had considered the same thing; connecting 2 or more together in parallel to give the Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) equivent. Each battery has it's own onboard BMS to should elimate the requrement for a twin charge system, they are small, light, and 12v, only downside is the price Shocked Zaid-M

Yeah when im paying £80 for both that goes out the window. Would connecting in parallel be as simple as two wires to connect together? (obviously supporting the right level of amps)

Their independent starting amps is 700 which I assume is plenty for a TD5 even in winter?

I feel like I am missing something? Though feel they will last longer, charge much faster and also retain crank power at a much lower charge v lead acid?

Another question I have is currently my battery has about 7 things connected directly to the live connector. These batteries dont look like they would handle that - is there something I can buy that would do this? since fuses are all inline feels a bit unnecessary to add a fuse box for this? (Or maybe thats safest and double up fuses?!)

I'm not an vehicle electrican nor a battery specialist so could not really answer the fine detail of compatability.

As for multi connections - something like this might work ? https://www.bluesea.com/products/5026/ST_B..._and_Cover Zaid-M

Thanks mate - yeah I was debating getting 2 of those from mud - one for all live and one for all switched - at-least for all the new additions that have and will be made from factory.

Im a bit lost with how to connect 2 batteries together as well so keen to hear others thoughts on this idea. Im wary connecting 2 12v batteries will just increase the voltage and not the amps?

Connecting in parallel is that bit : https://relionbattery.com/blog/series-vs-p...-explained

But the bit that is really important is the cable gauge, and the connections, get it right all will be good, get it wrong then it could be a Defender bonfire with extra diesel and lithium battery bombs Shocked Zaid-M
