Aerial - External verses Internal?
Hi folk

Just had my Defender 90 for about six weeks now and there was no radio or aerial fitted.

I did not want an "Up market" Radio/Stereo ... but I did need a noise of some sorts and I would of course need an aerial!

A fair amount to Internet searching was done for a half decent aerial and came up with a few which had been reviewed with mixed comments on here including DAB ones too. All of which were external too ... also I did not want to start drill holes in my wings until I could find exactly what I wanted ... but the radio was now fitted so I DID need an aerial!

Bottom line I bought a £6.49 internal one with amplifier (Chinese of course) but pondered about its performance and where to put it. (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272958754819) ... Just noticed its DOWN to £5.58!!!

I don't use the Ashtray so out it came and I made a blanking plate of Acetal (110x56x8mm) and stuck the aerial too it.

The reception is superb, far better than expectations Very Happy and definitely worth £6.49!

So while you may be pondering fitting an aerial to your new acquisition ... maybe try this!

Sweet. So do the 'non head unit' Defenders not have an aerial hole in the wing? Makes sense I suppose. I had always assumed the wings were patterned with an aerial hole > 110 XS Double Cab

Certainly my Defender 90/TDi300 (1994) had no aerial holes ... but when I fitted the snorkle on the RHS the aerial support bracket within the wheel arch was definately present and had to be "bent" out of the way as per the "Safari" fitting instructions.

Fitted this little bad boy to my Defender when grafting in a mechless MP3/DAB unit. Has been brilliant despite the price and the wire is long enough to run to the rear of the tub in my 110 ragtop..
