Leaky injectors 200tdi
I recently noticed a smell of diesel from the engine bay. Had been no whiff at all up to now and all of a sudden, a strong smell. The clutch and Dow pipe have been replaced but other than that, bo work so I suppose just coincidental timing.

Had a look yesterday and can see that diesel is leaking out where the injector joins the head. On number 1 cylinder I can see it bubbling while the engine is running.

I am assuming the problem is with the copper sealing washers. Any thoughts as to whether I should try and tighten the injectors a little first or pull them out and replace the washers?

Thanks.

You could try to nip them down a little to keep going. Have a look regardless and check the securing nut hasn't become loose or the clamp hasn't banana'd...

But in the longterm yes you need to replace the copper washers.

Given that a set of washers is less than a fiver it does make sense to replace. I have ordered some.

In the meantime, the only one I could get a socket to was number 1 so I checked the torque and it was a fair bit below the recommended 18 ft-lb. I have nipped them all up a little and cleaned up around. I'll take it for a spin and see how it is.

Thanks for the replies Thumbs Up

Set about replacing the washers this morning only to find that the banjo on the fuel return on number 1 injector was loose. Very loose.

Took the injector out, cleaned it and replaced with a new washer and then ensured the banjo was tightened. On checking the others, although not loose, they were not tight. All nipped up now and seems OK. Thumbs Up
