2.2 Tdci piston issue or injector seal fail.
Hi there, had an issue recently where the 110 failed with codes relating to the turbo and cylinder no 2 loss of compression. Puff of smoke through the internal vent, vehicle running very lumpy as you would expect. Have had a chance to push a camera into the cylinder and pics attached. Can anyone tell me if this looks like a melted piston or not? Thanks all.

Hard to tell. Don’t know if it is the light from the camera, but it looks almost milky looking.

It's the spot that I am looking at in the dark area and thinking it could be a hole. The engine has been running with a hydrogen on demand system, these are supposed to keep your engine spotless from a carbon point of view and to be fair the injectors looked nearly New. I have stripped the tips and given them a thorough clean anyways, are burnt holes huge or small like in the picture?

Can't see pics.
Hole will be in edge of piston bowl.
If its still running but rough with lots of blow by chances are holed piston.

So you think unlikely to be unseated injector?

How do you know that cylinder 2 has loss of compression?
Compression test or OBD11 fault code.
Mine came up with cylinder 2 miss fire.
All diagnostics pointed to cylinder 2. Pulled injector and sent it for testing came back as failed.
Sent to dealer where they checked the current draw came back as cylinder 2 low.
Pulled head found cylinder 4 holed piston.

Thanks BH, still have a small hope that it might be unseated injector. The funny thing is that the injector looked almost like new from that cylinder, virtually no carbon on the tip. The hydrogen on demand system certainly seems to be doing the promised job of keeping the worst of the carbon at bay.

Can pistons be removed from the bottom of the engine through the sump without removing the crank? Or is this a full strip down?
