Well done SMWCRT!
Congratulations to the South and Mid Wales Cave Rescue team (SMWCRT) plus seven other cave rescue groups* from all over the UK on the successful outcome a few minutes ago of the longest duration cave rescue for many years, in Ogof Ffynnon Ddu. Great to see such teamwork, in the finest tradition of cave rescue, and great to see the casualty being finally transported to hospital in the traditional vehicle. Photo from the BBC website:

In the 1980s I was an very active SWCC member and on more than a few occasions was involved in call-outs for cavers in OFD, and it is good to see some familiar faces and names on the news.

* Gloucester Cave Rescue Group, Midlands Cave Rescue Organisation, Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation, Mendip Cave Rescue, South East Cave Rescue Organisation, Cave Rescue Organisation, and Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association also participated in the massive 48+ hour carry out.

All of these volunteers (Cave, Mountain, Lifeboat, St.Johns, etc) need far more recognition IMO.....

Couldn't agree more Thumbs Up These guys and gals are something else. Recognition is the least they deserve.

I went caving once as a kid and it took everything I had to not freak out, the absolute darkness, the small spaces, the water, trusting that your fat ass will fit through the gap that looks like a medium sized rat would think twice about it.

I can only imagine what being trapped injured in those conditions must have been like and hats off to all those involved in his rescue.
