The yellow wire is the one which gives the 'run' command to the heater unit. You could either keep the 801 controller and intercept the yellow wire with a cheapy RF remote kit so that the unit only functions when the remote says so (but keeps the thermostat functions of the 801). Alternatively you could just remove the 801 and have it controlled by just the remote.

I wonder if I could have both functions 801 controller for when I am in the car and remote for when I am sitting in the house and want a warm car on a cold morning - Does the yellow just need a +ve feed to make it switch on ? 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Does the digital unit come equipped with support for a remote or not?
My chinese heater does and the remotes are £5 a pop on ebay,  |

Yeah i believe 12v on the run wire will make operate. Think that should be possible quite easily with a spdt relay to connect the yellow wire to either the controller or 12v. I think if i was doing that, i would want to complicate it a little by limiting the run time from the remote to an hour or something so it doesnt just run for ever inadvertently.

No, most of the controllers are very basic in terms of functionality (not as bad as webasto ones). There is some more 'smart' ones (sms or bluetooth) but they are stupid money. 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

I do have a on/off switch on the dash to control the power so that would limit the accidental triggering (kills the two relays for the main feed) The temp would be set on the 801 as well, again will limit the heater heating up to high temperature There are a few RF remote controls on the likes of Ebay to look at. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |
