What is the take on the engine to go for, petrol or diesel?

Seems the push has started for the "main" event:

If it were me, I'd say petrol purely based on the refinement that I got on the lap of the estate. It was more than capable of the very steep ascents and the pick-up when he gave it the beans was bloody frightening (the induction noise from the snorkel was intoxicating also).

But I guess it all depends on your use case... towing etc.

I also would be wary of buying a new diesel vehicle considering the push to eradicate them. Stuart

My side show called work is in aviation. I know people are wondering who would buy one and that there will be no market. Couple of pilots (who work for a very big London based airline) chatting to me today. One had ordered a 110 and now canx for a Grenadier. Other is a D5 owner (M/T’s fitted...) and another order. Both going for station wagon with all trimmings.

So I figure they are starting to pick some of the LR buyers who wanted a solid and dependable vehicle but are not badge snobs. Possibly like LR owners of old Whistle 1951 80" S1 2.0

Ignoring whether the number started at zero or 1,000 or even 2,000; Is that the same as just saying the numbers of confirmations (deposit holders) has moved from 9,999 to 10,000 plus?

Copied from another post but the sentiment is the same ~

the decline of diesel looks terminal; although there is a certain irony attached to questioning your ICE choice on a 2.7 tonne, permanent 4 wheel drive, body on frame, mobile brick.

I've never had adblue, and don't think I really want the hassle.

DPF is a Censored and who wants to waste fuel feeding it, and then find it's diluting your oil.

EGR is even worse, a fundamentally flawed technogy that just pushes issues/costs onto long term owners.

It's a funny time to be making a choice ~ best place is on the fence and scanning the horizon for the solution we all need.

Aren't they two mutually exclusive groups? The former helped create the image that the latter mistakenly believe they are now buying into.

In another thread elsewhere I'm talking of the implications for a Diesel grenadier for the kind of travel I want to do. I am getting closer to understanding how to make it work, but it's 100% driven by a romantic ideal that a truck like this "should" be diesel. Practically speaking gas is way better these days in most cases, and this graph underscores that. As Scott Brady said - "the entire world has been explored by motorcycle, and they almost exclusively run on gas", which is particularly relevant to my use case, and odds are good that when it comes time to order, it will be a petrol engine.

But still. Romance. It should have a little diesel, shouldn't it? @Smyles_ needs to tell us more about the induction noice from the gasser to break the love spell that this Diesel has bewitched me with!

Yes, that is my feeling. Every 10k will be a new batch. It doesn't mean the order your will be built since ppl can order from all over the world.
