More on Boost's
Morning all ... lots of questions from me as a re-born newbie to Defenders.

Just bought a 1994 Defender 90 fitted with 235/70/R16's fitted on steel rims which I presume are correct.

Reading various threads it would appear the Boost comes as a "Standard" 16"x7"

I've been offered a set of Boost's but the seller states they are 17" ... can this be right?? and if so what would be a good road tyre for them. See below.

Many thanks

John

I could be wrong but I don't recall 17" boosts although I stopped looking for a good few years....

It will be a seller error. He's probably measured wrong. You see Boost alloys listed as 17" rims one bay from time to time.

Ask the seller to confirm that the rim has Land Rover stamped on the back of the rim. If it is there then it is a genuine Boost alloy and is 16". Thumbs Up

235 70 is a discovery 1 size not ideal on a defender.

16 and 18 have plenty of tyre choice for a 90 110 but there is much less around at 17"

235 85 16 and 265 75 16 are the most common after the originals 7.50x16 and 205x 16 sizes from factory.

Does your defender have rear disc brakes if it has drums you will not be able to fit boost wheels? For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

So with 16" original steel wheels ... please can you advise what tyre sizes and types would be good for motoring. 90% road work / 10% off-road.

Many thanks in anticipation.

John

Here's my tyre ... do you think this is a Defender tyre?

After a lot of zooming, I managed to read 235/70R16. As Mdm said, this is a Discovery 1 size tyre. No harm fitting these tyres, and I think the drive train will like it more, but personally I see them too small at 29" diameter.

More common and favorite size is 235/85R16 which is almost a 32" diameter.

A very nice size is 255/85R16, which is a 33" diameter. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

When you say "original" do you mean fitted when you bought it? I imagine that you know that those are most definitely not genuine Landrover wheels and it would not have been fitted with them when new.

I have 7x16 Boost wheels fitted on a D90 from -99, works fine.
Think they have 33mm offset and I´m looking at something with less offset, any good suggestions?
Steel wheels might be a good option and I love the look of beadlocks....even imitations.
