The hook-loader and the knuckleboom are very impressive conversions, exactly what the old Defender was all about. Thanks for posting the photos, please keep them coming. Thumbs Up

I also look forward to seeing the first knuckleboom or hook-loader installation anyone manages on a New Defender. Rolling with laughter

Monty, the Rural Crime Car
Nice to see Cheshire Police "saving" an older Defender.

Monty, the Rural Crime Car, is set to have a makeover, enabling him to continue to provide a reassuring presence to Cheshire’s Rural Communities. Added to the Rural Crime Team after being saved from auction in 2020, he is the oldest vehicle on the Constabulary’s fleet and enables the police to better engage with rural communities.

Monty’s situation was brought to the attention of Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer, who looked into what he could do to keep Monty on the road as part of his commitment to tackle rural crime.

John Dwyer said: “Tackling rural crime is a priority for me and I want to support rural communities in any way I can. In my Police and Crime Plan, I’ve outlined my commitment to rural communities and helping to get Monty back to full health is a step in the right direction.”

Mark Rotheram, a member of Green Lane Association (GLASS), asked for help to keep Monty. He reached out to via the Commissioner’s Community Action Fund and in his application, he wrote:

“Cheshire Rural Police have been very visible in supporting legal Green Lane use and have promoted a truly positive approach to shared use. A big part of this is through local engagement and one of the tools in their arsenal is the ability a part of the community. This has been supported by Monty, the team’s 300tdi Defender, that not only allows the team to visit remote areas but brings a certain charm and connection to locals.

“Defenders have been part of the rural community since the 1940’s and reflect a way of life. Monty is no different. He’s a talking point, a connection to our past and a very visual presence on the roads. Sadly, Monty is showing signs of his age now and we really don’t want to lose him.”

John Dwyer added: “Two thirds of Cheshire is classed as rural and crime that is committed in rural areas often has a significant impact on the livelihoods of victims.

“Cheshire Constabulary has its own dedicated, nationally-recognised Rural Crime Team and Monty is a big part of that team. Providing the funding needed to help get Monty back to full health will have a huge impact on the rural community as demonstrated in Mr Rotheram’s application to the Community Action Fund."

Mark Rotheram continued: “We want to use Monty within our police force to drive engagement, encourage conversation and bring all user groups together over the shared love of a British classic. You’d be surprised how powerful a statement seeing a police officer in a Defender makes to the rural populations and the criminals within. It brings a smile to so many faces and make people want to talk to our officers.”

Great to see that article above, the true evergreen vehicle, sustainability reuse etc, outlived many other vehicles on the fleet, why bother replacing when you can restore, the essence of real Land Rovers Thumbs Up

It's a shame to see many other organisations are swapping their old Defenders for new disposable trucks when this type of thing can be done
