Seating the 300tdi crank shaft oil seal.
I fitted a timing belt to my 300tdi but it has started leaking oil from the wading plug hole in the timing cover. I assume the oil seal has gone in badly so need to do it again this weekend.

Could some of you experienced folk give me tips on the best method to seat them so as not to have this happen again.

I have the crank pulley that came off if this is any use to help seat it.

Thanks for your help.

Mick

Did you fit the o-ring between pulley and crankshaft?

Good morning

I use three threaded bars screwed into the seal mounting engine block holes ( at 12 o'clock position and lower bottom left and right) and use this as a guide to slide the seal on so it arrives at a perpendicular angle to the crankshaft......the protection seal pops off ..........it also wouldn't do any harm to add silicon gasket seal........ It should be slid on dry also.

As an aside I wouldn't discount the leak coming from the camshaft seal also.

If high kms then if there's movement in the big end bearings the seal could leak too.

All the best

@Ohlins

Are you getting mixed up with the rear main seal? The front pulley/crank oil seal is just a round drift in type seal.
