LaSalle headlining

LaSalle headlining - any good I'm about to take the plunge?

I have previously fitted one in my 110 and was quite impressed with it, I didn’t have any problems with the fitment of it either, no having to trim to fit situation etc. It will certainly solve the problem of the saggy headlining.

I made sure to soundproof and insulate the roof before fitting the headlining which makes a huge difference, there is plenty of room to do this.

I bought a black one just because it suited the rebuild and colour scheme but a word of caution is that I found mine marked very easily just from contact with the ungloved hand so be sure to wear clean gloves to avoid this slight issue. This of course may not be an issue with the lighter coloured lining.

I understand your hesitation as it is a lot of money but I don’t think you will be disappointed.

I fitted one in mine a while back - now it's in it looks OK, the cutting of the sunroof etc wasn't too bad, but there's a few things that aren't clear before you get it but probably worth bearing in mind:

The sun visors mount to the headlining, rather than the the inside of the roof. It all flexes a bit when you move the visors, and the passenger side visor just catches the interior mirror.

The way it fits in at the sides is different - the standard headlining drops into the channels at the top of the roof in the boot area, the LaSalle one you have drill holes in the edge of the channel and use trim clips - so accessories like the MSS highline racks can't be fitted any more.

Fitting it, especially in a 110 is a 2 man job, and trying to get the bits inside the car in the right orientation is a total PITA - you have to flex it quite a lot through the doors. Nothing cracked, but it was a worrying time!

Now it's in, it looks good, there's a few bits where it doesn't fit perfectly, but that's likely more to do with LR tolerances and my skills than the lining itself.

The light ones do show dirt easily, but it wipes off.

If I was doing it again, I would seriously consider getting one of the aftermarket 'standard' ones instead.

Oh - also make sure you get the colour swatches if you do get it from LaSalle - the swatches they send show the 'real' colours where the online versions look a bit different!
