Strange rattle
Whilst travelling last year picked up a strange rattle. It would happen as soon as i was on on rough ground. The noise sounded like something between a suspension bush and a loose heat shield. Looked several times but could never find anything.
Last month decided to prod and pull everything under the wagon to try and sort. Turns out it was the front diff protector plate (add on for rough offroad). There was no obvious signs of damage distortion but after taking it off there was a clear sign of wear at a point that was under the lowest point of the diff.
Its made from 5mm plate so not something i expected to flex much. In retrospect I have a good idea where it happened but as i was on a few days back country driving didnt pick it up at the time. Andy

Had the same issue around my exhaust as a new back box had been fitted, was thinking would silent coat work on noisy metal parts underneath the body? Has anyone tried it on heatshields etc?

I would not put any bitumen based noise dampening material on anything that can get hot. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
