High pressure fuel supply eaten by animal!
While driving, I started smelling diesel. Stopped at the side of the road and there was some smoke as I opened the bonnet.
This was the problem:

There was lots of diesel around the injectors and running down the side of the engine. Also plenty of nut shells, so assume it was eaten by a mouse or similar.
Used some flexible hose as a fix to get back home (20km), but I assume this is not recommended for long:

Can the individual small length of damaged pipe be replaced, or do I need to buy all the high pressure pipes as a single assembly? It looks like each of the pieces can be connected individually, but I can't work out how they can be easily disassembled and reassembled. Any help (and part numbers I need to order if possible) would be very much appreciated.

They are the leak off pipes and return to tank. The high pressure ones are the metal pipes to the injectors. Leak off pipes are available for Tdi and the likes, not sure for the TDCi though others with more knowledge will answer better, I have only got up to TD5 era.
Your repair will be ok in the short term, but make sure they are diesel resistant.

I believe you can also get 'rodent tape' which deters them in the first place.

I've no experience of it myself but a friend who's bulkhead I'm replacing at the moment is going to buy some for parts of his wiring loom that the mice have been nibbling. Donald

A pity it only comes as an assembly instead of being able to replace single hose parts. I will order one though.

I looked into that rodent tape - it seems to not always be effective. thin paint laced with hot chilli pepper/powder looks to be quite popular and effective though!

Thanks all. Thumbs Up
