Double spare wheel carrier
I want it fit a Gobi x twin rear wheel carrier to my 2014 defender tdci double cab pick up. I understand it won’t fit because of the hinges on the tailgate. So if I change the tailgate to put side hinges on. Which I think is posssible. Can I then fit the new rear bumper with double spare wheel carrier. They bolt to existing holes in rear cross member. I know they fit to station wagons. So I suppose the question is. Are the rear cross member the same on double cabs and station wagons. If so then my thinking is that it would fit if I i side hinged the rear tailgate.

Yes, the crossmember is the same across all of the (similarly aged) models. If you remove the tailgate hinges then you're left with a crossmember as if it was a van or station wagon. Darren

Thanks for that info. I can now go ahead with ordering side hinges and a wheel carrier.
Up to now I’ve relied on a second spare tyre slung on the roof rack. New bundutop tent takes up most of the roof rack so looking for alternatives. Changing tubeless tyres whilst out on travels is also not easy. Having a twin wheel carrier makes everything easier and the rear bumper gives the Landy more protection as have been rear ended before 😳
Can you suggest the side hinges I need and can I use the same catches to lock in place
Thanks

You can use all of the standard hardware from a regular rear door - hinges, lock, striker plate, etc. - or you could use any of a number of aftermarket hinges from the likes of Optimill.

You can even buy the whole lot as a kit, although it's Britpart so I can't vouch for the quality:

I suspect that you could get better if you sourced all of the parts separately. Essentially though, you're replicating the regular rear door set up but without the top hinge, so will need all of the components that entails. Darren

Will share pictures shortly. Fitting ostrich wing awning this weekend and finish wiring for solar panels and bundutop tent.
Ordered hinges for tailgate for now. May convert to new half door conversion kit in future .

Notice damage on rear near side wing. Got rear ended in Windhoek Namibia last year. Hence why I want to fit a rear bumper with twin wheel carrier 👍. Not going to get it repaired any more than it is as I’ll probably inflict more cosmetic damage on it.
As long as mechanics are all sound, I’m ok with that

Lovely looking 110, may I ask what the rear canopy is?
