19j Engine judder when dropping back to idle

Hi All,

Have a resent issue with my 2.5TD 19j, When coming of the throttle to idle the engine has now started to judder and almost stall. This have been happening for just over a week. Two days ago noticed fuel filter leaking Diesel. Changed the fuel filled and notice water in the filter. Bled the filter , pump and injectors, still have issue. Idle is 680 rpm.

Any ideas.

I had the exact issue when my 19J was not getting enough work. I think letting it sit doing nothing in the garage for too long caused something in the fuel pump to stick. I even had occasions that the engine would stall and die. But starts up right away.

Getting off the throttle slowly was my temporary solution. Idling was smooth, hence I ruled out the injectors.

A bit of use solved the issue before I stopped it for restoration. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
