Puma Factory "Premium" Audio parts and wiring?
Hi everyone.

I've been gathering parts for the stereo for some time to fit to my radio-prepped 2010 90SW. My intent had been to duplicate the standard Bluetooth Alpine setup, but I've just got really lucky and have managed to get a Genuine LR Alpine subwoofer. With that in hand, I think I'll keep working on finding parts until I have all the "premium audio" parts.

This is what I have in stock so far:

An Alpine CDE-133BT head unit, with factory mounting cage, connection loom and factory microphone/clips/mount
4x identical factory speakers (believed standard, not premium, labelled XQM500570)
2x factory tweeters labelled 6H52-18932-AA
An Alpine SWE-1200LR factory subwoofer

As mine came with radio prep only, there is a known niggle in that the rear speaker connections aren't actually connected back to the head unit connector. For that reason, PaulMC made me a lovely little connector that goes from the grey block by the clutch pedal back to a pin in the head unit connector.

To connect the subwoofer, Martin stocks all the connectors ready made on his shop so I'll get some ordered.

But I would love to ask a few questions if I may:

When was the premium audio option introduced by LR and was it only on certain models or special editions (XS, Autobiography, Heritage, Adventure, Fire and Ice, etc)?

What upgraded parts were included - were all 6 speakers changed, or just the 4x 10" speakers or just the two fronts? - in other words, which bits from my stock would I need to replace to hit full premium spec? (I haven't fitted the kit yet, so there's no rush and I while aftermarket will inevitably be better, I'd be perfectly happy with the premium pack).

I have been through the parts diagram - the subwoofer didn't seem to appear until the 2013-2016 range (mine is 2010), but the premium specific parts don't seem to be identified, unless I'm missing something: https://www.lrworkshop.com/diagrams/land-r...from_da#15

Really appreciate any help with this.

Forum member Oldowner has just reminded me in a separate conversation that for a true OEM look, I'll need the subwoofer-specific cubby box. On the hunt now.

Dismantling mine and remaking it as a shorter one isn't beyond the realms of possibility - but I think the lid is thicker and padded so I'll need to find a source for one.

Hi, my 2015 110 XS had the 'premium' upgrade.
The head unit is the Alpine 133BT that was istandard in any XS model of the same year.
All 4 main speakers were the 'up grade' ones, still 4" dia, but bigger magnets on the back. The easy way to recognise these is they have a round depression in the centre of the grille.
The Alpine sub, which you have.
The tweeters were the same as the standard fit tweeters.

So the upgrade was only the 4 main speakers and the sub.

I've since swapped to Focals for the mains and tweeters, and it was an amazing difference.
Sorry, don't know when the option was introduced, or what models could have it.

^ yes, the cubby. It just had a flat, vinyl covered lid. Didn't look anything special, and for the very small difference in dimensions, I wouldn't bother to find one.

thank you very much.

So, that's reassuring sounds like the only things I need to find are:

4x premium speakers
1x subwoofer cubby*

*It having a flat lid is particularly interesting, if it is literally just a change in dimensions then I might draw up a sketch and ask the forum for dimensions. I think I have a spare genuine cubby somewhere, it might be realistic to carefully take off the vinyl, remake the box to size and retrim. Particularly useful as my interior is cloth & vinyl and I doubt that I'd find a genuine cubby with a vinyl lid, so I'll be making something either way.

Gasket: I had the 4 premium speakers and the sub having gone down the route you are going now and it sounded great. However I upgraded the speakers to Focals all around and it is noticeably improved again. The sound is incredibly crisp. The premium pack didn’t have cross overs so the tweeters are just wired off the front two mid speakers.

I think you will do all 6 speakers and a pair of cross overs from less than £300. This will be more than a second hand set of premium speakers (I ended up giving mine away!) but will be a lot easier to source.

Thanks very much Co1, nice to know its a good upgrade.

I'm starting from just a pair of dash speakers and a cheap head unit so think it will be a huge improvement, even with 'just' the premium setup. I'd like to start with tracking down a set of genuine premium 10" speakers - as you say, I don't think they're worth very much so shouldn't be an expensive upgrade - I'll just have to keep an eye out or will pop up a wanted ad.

Not sure why, but I really just want to stick with an OEM install to start with and may upgrade from there in a few years but suspect the premium sound will be plenty good enough for me.

On a 90 i wouldn’t bother with changing/altering the cubby, there’s enough space.

Excuse the fluff... Standard cubby with LR sub retrofitted in 90XS:

I think on a 110 it would hang into the row 2 footwell, hence the shorter cubby needed. On a 90 it fits fine.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

That's really helpful, thanks Martin. So it still ends well before the bulkhead removal bar? That's reassuring.

So, I guess that even if the 'shorter' cubby box is used it would still protrude back over the lip of the seatbox:tub flange anyway so using the normal cubby wouldn't offer the sub any less protection.

Phew: one more thing off the list. Just need the 4x premium speakers and I'm on to install once I get the sub loom ordered from the shop.

While you are at it you might want to consider the Alpine KTP445A amplifier. Plug and play with Alpine kit and a worthwhile enhancement IMO. No further chamges since I described in this old post... https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic55496.html Cheers, Guy.
