Wiring Rear interior light
Hi All, First post here and its going to be a boring one Neutral

I have a TD5 90 Hardtop and I'm in the process of installing the headliner and plastic surrounds, as well as a rear interior light.

Now, I bought a rear loom but appear to have a few things missing and so I am now lost and confused.... Rolling with laughter

I've currently got sat here the rear light with bracket and rear loom w/ the curtesy switch but not the link I need however my car doesn't have the immobiliser and ultrasonic sensor so does this mean I need to do some custom wiring to get the rear light to function?

I don't see how the rear light is fed power, am I missing something out entirely

Cheers

[/i]

My car is a 300tdi era so not dirctlyy comparable but.....

Are you saying that you had none of these things in the car before - headlining, trim or rear light? Do you have the courtesy light switch on the rear door frame - about the level of the rear wheel arch/where the heated rear window loom goes into the car?

In the Tdi vehicles, the power to the rear light goes via the push/courtesy switch, and then is earthed to the bodywork.

If you don't have the switch, and want the light to come on as the door opens, then you'd need the switch too.

If you just want a light that's manually switchable, you'll just need to tap into one of the wires behind the light cover - either ignition swithched or permanently live.

Yes, you'll have to do a bit of custom wiring, I'm afraid. It's not difficult, though - tee in the three wires to the light into the existing wiring and extend the earth wire to the new rear door switch. The hardest part when doing this sort of thing is making the connection to the new light but if you have that bit of the loom with the proper connector on then you don't have that issue.

It's not a direct comparison but I added a third light to my 110 by splicing in the three wires (earth, constant live and switched live) to the existing loom:

It's worth noting that the way the lights operate on your TD5 are different to what Donald has described on his tdi - on yours the light is earthed by the door switch.

I hope that helps. Darren

I should probably add that my suggestion of splicing in the wires was on the basis that you said you don't have the required link wire to the existing harness. If you can get that wire and just plug it all in then that would be the preferred option. Darren

I'll order the next loom which is refered to as a "lead - link" and then I'll have a gander for the extra plug on the front loom and see if my 90 has it - only questioning whether it will or not since its a low spec vehicle.

are you grafton on Instagram? You've got a clean TD5 pal

I think fitting the wiring harness is the best option if the plug is there.

So I just recieved AMR4991 and removed the headliner partly to find the grey plug you mentioned george.

Now, I might be being a bit dim but I cannot find any where to plug in this loom at all

looks like you are missing the metal backing plate that the single black wire clips into. It has 2 studs that pass through the light assembly and are held in with 2 nuts. part# 3 in the diagram in a posting above. it's a Landrover thing...

I cannot find any where to plug in this loom at all . as you have early type rear interior light loom with round pin connectors you will need to splice the wires to giver on this side

Grey plug above the driver side A pillar C0259---- pin 1 ----- Black wire------ B------------ battery -( to black on your loom)
--------------------------------------------C0259-----pin 3----- Purple white-----PW--- interior light control for alarm unit ( purple -blue tracer on your loom)
--------------------------------------------C0259-----Pin 2-------Purple Brown -----PN------- fuse dc+ ( to purple on your loom)

As you have early type rear interior light loom with round pin connectors wire colours may not match between the early and later wiring see below

Black wire pin 1------ B------------ battery -( to black on your early loom)

Purple white pin 3-----PW--- interior light control for alarm unit ( purple -blue tracer on your early loom) or door switch only

Purple Brown pin 3 -----PN------- fuse dc+ ( to purple on your early loom)

Little update = I found the time to begin the wiring and I got the light to run off of the original and the front courtesy switches.

Am I right in thinking I have to splice the 3rd courtesy switch into the earth in the plug above the drivers seat?

And would that be Pin one like you said
