Never replaced a handbrake cable (just taken apart and re installed the old one though). Fairly straight forward to replace.
But from the aftermarket cable departments, I did but a bonnet release cable, utter rubbish. I also got a throttle cable, which at first glance looked decent, but the pedal feel is not good, it used to stick and throttle response becomes ‘jerky’. Think... if the handbrake cable breaks once you pull it up, then you still have control of the vehicle. But what if it breaks as soon as you step out? What if there are pedestrians stepping down the kerb to cross the road. What damage to third party can be caused? Is it worth saving 90bucks for the above risks? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Mine seized in the on position and taking the drum off was a nightmare!!
Its pretty straight forward, i would recommend genuine parts if you can get them, that a said in the middle of lock down i couldn't get the genuine cable so bought the bearmach part, parts guy said he cant see any difference between them, plus a top tip is to buy there spring kit and replace the springs. The cable has been in a year now and no issues 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8 2010 110 XS Utility 2.4TDCI 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 (gone) 2007 Discovery HSE TDV6 (gone) 1993 110 csw 200 tdi (gone) 1994 90 HT 300 tdi (gone) 1994 discovery 300tdi (gone) 90 hybrid 3.5 v8 (gone) Range rover bobtail 3.5 v8 (gone) |

Thanks all, for now, I have bought the bearmach equivalent with the understanding that it should only brake when im pulling it, and shouldn't just snap without external loads so therefore no injured pedestrians. Now its just the problem of actually replacing it!

You should always leave it in gear anyway, in case the handbrake fails.
